A favorite verse in the Bible is Ezra 7:10 - "For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel." From this one simple verse there is an incredible mandate for us all to Study, Practice, and Teach the Word of God. During the recent XET meetings we concluded that we would like to focus our weekly Tuesday devo around the common theme of "godly character." We will all take turns bringing a devo (approximately 30 minutes) on this broad subject over the course of this new fiscal year. This will allow us all to have the chance to Study, Practice and Teach. It will also help us be better unified as a team, in that wherever we are traveling in the world, or out of the office, we can still be on the same page in terms of spiritual focus. It has the further benefit of giving us opportunities to hone our skills and provide new material on a subject we need to be experts in when we go out to work alongside and encourage our national staff and volunteers. Better for us to make our mistakes at home than out and about! You may want to consider Chuck Swindoll’s "Profiles in Character" series about the lives of great men and women of the Bible. They are terrific. However, you are more than welcome to choose your own source and course in how you want to speak about godly character. Perhaps you’d like to discuss character in relation to conscience how Mike Metzger has suggested? Or just something from your own personal study. You have freedom to do what God leads you to do. We realize it’s hard to plan very far out, but dates can always be juggled as things come up for you, so just give your best guesses at this point.
